    We've now exhausted all the standard known fixes for this problem.
    I suspect that the problem lies with WMI - but have no idea where to start troubleshooting it.

    Three options remain.

    1) We can continue here in the hope of finding a fix - this could take some time, and may not succeed.
    2) You can do a repair install of Windows 7 - this usually fixes it.
    3) you can try contacting MS Support for assistance, which may or may not be free depending on what mood they are in this week :)

    I go for option 2.
    I have a full back up so I can always go back to the present state if this does not work.
    In that case I will contact Microsoft again and probably have to pay.

    To be honest - MS will almost certainly suggest the reinstall anyhow, but it's always an option.
    Theory is that WGA problems are supposed to be FoC - but there's a maze to run before they admit it :)

    Hi NoelDP


    Microsoft advised a complete new Windows 7 install. I didn't do it.
    With your suggestions about a driver problem I did a driver run with DriverMax (free edition) and it showed the newer Intel (R) ICH9R/DO/DH/ 6 Port SATA ACHI Controller 2922 driver (version 9.1.9.1001).
    After installing this driver the validation problem disappeared!!!

    Those drivers are interesting - my reading of your report, and the Medion website was that those drivers wouldn't work, as the chipset was too old.
