This computer is not running genuine windows

Hello I'm having a problem where I get the "This computer is not running genuine windows" popup. This only started recently (maybe a month at most). I bought the computer about 2 years ago and I've never had a problem since, I have my windows code so I know that its legit. The problem with this is that when I follow the link to the windows 7 website and try to authorise my windows it says something along the lines of: "the windows files either aren't installed properly or they've been modified or changed". It then prompts me to buy a new windows key, when I already have a legal key.

    Anyway here's my diagnostic report:

    Tampered File: %systemroot%\system32\sppcommdlg.dll|sppcommdlg.dll.mui

Please run a full CHKDSK and SFC scan....

Click on Start > All Programs > Accessories
Right-click on the Command Prompt entry
Select Run as Administrator and accept the UAC prompt - the Elevated Command Prompt window should pop up.

    At the Command prompt, type

    CHKDSK C: /R

    and hit the Enter key.
You will be told that the drive is locked,
and the CHKDSK will run at he next boot - hit the Y key, press Enter, and then reboot.

The CHKDSK will take a few hours depending on the size of the drive, so be patient!

After the CHKDSK has run, Windows should boot normally (possibly after a second auto-reboot) -
    then run the SFC.

SFC -System File Checker - Instructions
Click on Start > All Programs > Accessories
Right-click on the Command Prompt entry
Select Run as Administrator and accept the UAC prompt - the Elevated Command Prompt window should pop up.

    At the Command prompt, type

    SFC /SCANNOW

    and hit the Enter key

Wait for the scan to finish - make a note of any error messages - and then reboot.

Copy the CBS.log file created (C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log) to your desktop (you can't manipulate it directly) and then compress the copy and attach it to your reply

Post a new MGADiag report with details of any error messages encountered.

Hello, thanks for the help. The log file is attached. When the SFC scan finished it said this "Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them". No error messages other than that though.

Here is the new MGADiag report:

The SFC is clear, and the MGADiag report doesn't show a File Mismatch; so the chances are that the problem lies in the registry - now we have to figure out where :)

Please open an Elevated Command Prompt, and run the following commands

    Code:

    REG QUERY HKCR\AppID\sppcomapi.dll /S >>%userprofile%\desktop\scaregnp.log

    ICACLS C:\Windows\sppcomapi.* /T >>%userprofile%\desktop\scaregnp.log
    ATTRIB C:\Windows\sppcomapi.* /S >>%userprofile%\desktop\scaregnp.log
Make sure that you wait until the prompt returns - the final three commands may take a minute or two.

This will create a new file on your desktop - 'scaregnp.log' - please attach it to your reply.

Here are some instructions to make life easier :)
    1) To open an Elevated Command Prompt Window (the ECP window), click on Start, All Programs, Accessories – then right-click on Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator. Accept the UAC prompt.
    2) To run the commands easier, highlight the block of commands, and right-click on the highlight – select Copy. In the CP Window, click on the black/white icon at top left – select Paste. The commands will run but may not complete the last command, so hit the Enter Key once.
    3) To copy the results... click on the Black/White icon in the top left, and select Edit... 'Select All', and hit the Enter key - then use Ctrl+V or r-click+Paste to paste it into your response.

Very interesting - I tested that set of commands before I sent it and it ran perfectly, so there's something amiss on your computer.

Please run the following commands, and post the results

    DIR %userprofile%\d*.*
    ICACLS %userprofile%
    ICACLS %userprofile%\desktop
    REG /?
    REG QUERY /?

The first command said this: the system cannot find the file specified
The 2nd command said this: Invalid Perameter "surname"
The 3rd command said this: Invalid Perameter "surname/desktop"
The 4th command went on to ask me for a specific operation
The 5th command asked me for a specific query also

Is it possible I simply did the last thing you suggested wrong?

No - your environment is broken (badly).

(I was about to suggest using the Command Prompt to try find out where - but that's obviously not going to be possible)

It's almost as if the command variables are being transformed on processing - which is very virus-like behaviour.

Please download and install Malwarebytes Anti-malware (free version) from http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free/ - UNtick 'Enable free trial of MBAM PRO' at the end of the installation - and update it, then run a full scan in your main account, and Quick scans in any other user accounts.

    Delete everything it finds

OK - I'm going to call for assistance on this one.
While we're waiting for the cavalry, please run a CheckSUR scan and post the results.

Please download and save the CheckSUR tool from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821
(you'll need to look in the details for Method 2)

Run it - The tool can take anywhere from 5 mins to a couple of hours to run (or 'Install') depending on how much it has to do, and may exit silently - it may appear to freeze for most of that time, but be patient.
The result is logged in the C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log file - and an archive …\checksur.persist.log file

Then zip the CheckSUR.log and attach it to your reply
