I just posted this in the trhead for Error 8024402F - Try uninstalling dot net 4, both the extended and client profile - For some reason this package has been causing update fail in XP and Win 7. After uninstalling, it will want to reboot - Ya dont have to do it, just get em out, and try WU again after the remocal of the dreaded Dot Net 4

Hi Max,

Thanks, that's great.

In the mean time, would you mind uploading this log please:

C:\Windows\Logs\CBS.log

It should tell us a little about what's going on.

Thanks for your help, but it doesn't really apply here I'm afraid. Looking at the CheckSUR log, there is nothing to do with .NET in it:

There is a problem with the store, which is also what's causing SFC to fail - not something that can be fixed by the removal of any .NET installations.

Also, it is best to reboot after installing any update, whether it asks for it or not. There are plenty of files that will be put as a pending move, to be done over a reboot, and this backlog will just build up if you delay rebooting increasing the likelihood of a clash happening.

As for the previous set of instructions, do I need a Windows disc? Do I need to change boot order in the BIOS? I feel a little over my head in there.

Hi Max,

Thanks for the log, I will review it tomorrow. At a quick glance, you have a lot of errors there!

No need to worry about the other things, that was directed at XweAponX and nothing to worry about!

You should have

dir C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\appdata

Do it from Elevated Command Prompt

The ICACLS command should still return a result, even if the folder is hidden.

Please run the following command from an Elevated Command Prompt window(1)

Copy and paste set of commands below into the window once completed, hit the Enter Key to ensure that the last command has run (2)

REG QUERY HKU
REG QUERY HKU\S-1-5-20
REG QUERY HKU\S-1-5-20\Environment
REG QUERY "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList\S-1-5-20"
REG QUERY "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList"

Copy the whole output to your response(3)

Here are some instructions to make life easier
1) To open an Elevated Command Prompt Window (the ECP window), click on Start, All Programs, Accessories then right-click on Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator. Accept the UAC prompt.
2) To run the commands easier, highlight the block of commands, and right-click on the highlight select Copy. In the CP Window, click on the black/white icon at top left select Paste. The commands will run but may not complete the last command, so hit the Enter Key once.
3) To copy the results... click on the Black/White icon in the top left, and select Edit... 'Select All', and hit the Enter key - then use Ctrl+V or r-click+Paste to paste it into your response.
