Windows 7: Windows Updates Not Installing : Error Unknown (Sits on Installing)

Strictly from a personal point of view I would have the boot drive a SSD and keep the big drives for data backup.

I run 120GB SSD's in all my machines as 60GB would be a bit small after the OS, security and the usual apps like CCleaner and stuff are loaded but still doable. Plus the 120GB 's are reasonably priced right now.

I don't know but I think you said $30 for an SSD - that is extremely cheap even for a 60GB one unless it was a use one of course but buying used is fraught with problems in my mind.

Whatever you decide to get re a SSD there is a general feeling that the ones with Sandforce controllers are not perhaps the best choice so go for one with the other type controllers. There are plenty of members in here that will advise you - me I pick Samsung and Crucial as my particular choices, and if you do go SSD make sure you read and follow the tutorial on setting them up before installing onto them - SSD Alignment

Well I ran chkdsk last night, is there a log or something that you guys would like to see? Should I try installing the updates? Should I try a windows repair?

The CHKDSK log is in the Event Viewer as a Wininit event in the Windows Application log.

Nothing out os the ordinary there - lost file index entries are fairly common, and don't normally affect the system. The important thing is that there are no bad sectors showing.

Should I see what the result is if I try to install the updates again or should I go ahead and do the Repair or look at something else?

Run the repair/reinstall - the CHKDSK won't have changed anything significant.

I guess I should mention that I have an OEM System Builders Pack, so I don't think I have the option of running a repair.... only a clean install.... There is nothing on this computer that I dont have the installation cds and as I said before anything of importance I have put on an external so if doing a clean install is the only option I am fine with that but would like to know if you think thats still the way to go

Definitely - there's no point in spending large amounts of time attempting to manually repair this install.
