Sorry - I must have lost track of the thread!

The CBS.log file cuts off in the middle of a lie of output from the last SFC scan, with a load of null characters.
The CheckSUR is apparently clear.

Looking back through the CBS.log file at previous scans.... all appear to have ended rather abruptly without the usual repair entries (were they perhaps /verifyonly scans??)

Outside the SFC scans, there is a major error set which causes concern....
Code:

This appears to recur a number of times.

Please open an elevated Command Prompt window, please run the following commands, and post the results

DIR C:\Windows\Winsxs\Temp\PendingRenames
ICACLS C:\Windows\Winsxs\Temp\PendingRenames

Then run another SFC /SCANNOW and post the resulting CBS.log file.

That's ok I appreciate the help you've put in

Uhm, now instead of getting an error at 94%, I get a BSOD... lol tried it twice thinking maybe it was a one off, but yep, definitely got the blue screen of death at 94%...

Also I noticed when it tried to re-start my disk checker for "consistency" on bootup failed... WOndering if that's related or a seperate issue.

It sounds like you may have a hardware problem with the hard drive - back up your data now, to external media.

(back tomorrow - it's bed-time!)

Have you backed up your data? - until you do that, it's all at risk, and I'm not prepared to do anything, since many of the fixes could involve hard work for the HD, ad break it completely.

yeah all data is backed up... Was thinking of just trying a whole format of the HD? or a fresh windows install?

First, check that the HD is actually usable!!
Find the make and model of your HD from Device Manager - then download the appropriate test utility from the HD manufacturer's site, and check it using that.

ONLY THEN, consider the next step - If the HD passes the test, then a clean install is worthwhile.

stupid junk filter, didn't get this, even though I got every other one... It's a seagate ST9750420AS hard drive, so I've tried SeaTools for windows, but it freezes/doesn't find any hard drive

Also, there seems to be something in my C:\Program Files folder that causes a BSOD on virus scanning...

My "common files" in C:\Program Files says it was edited this year, but when you go in to the folder, nothing seems to have been edited this year from the other folders visible. I've clicked 'Show all hidden files/folders" and nothing new comes up either...
