The latest seems to be that it varies from 66% and not getting started. Anyway, ran the scan, seemed fine - "WRP did not find any integrity violations."

Please check your Update History - which Update(s) are now failing? what errors are attached to each?

If SP1 is the only one, download it for offline install from here.... Download Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 (KB976932) from Official Microsoft Download Center

There's only one update failing now, and it is Service Pack 1 for x64... (KB976932) Error code: 8024200D

All the other updates that were originally failing are now down as successful.

On that link there are 10 files available to download, which should I download?

You want the one for x64 - one of the three at the bottom.
With any luck it should install without a problem - we frequently see that error code, and offline install usually works for such problems.

Ran it, and got:

"Installation was not successful

The operation completely successfully
Details:

Error: DS_S_SUCCESS(0x0)"

Yes, you read that correctly. Rather contradictory I'm sure you'll agree.

I started the installation as normal, then turned the wireless off part way through if that had anything to do with it.

When I've got time to run the whole thing (most likely this evening), I'll do a safe boot, disable my anti-virus, then try it again. That covers a few bases.

So here's what happened, I decided to run the update again, just because the notification popped up. I was about to stop it, as it seemed to get stuck on 66%, but when I next looked it'd moved on to 75%. It eventually finished. The update completed. It said I needed to restart my computer, fair enough. The one thing that was a bit odd was the shield didn't appear next to the Shut Down option. Anyway, I restarted the computer, and it did the updates, configuring windows etc, and said when I logged, that Service Pack 1 was successfully installed.

Just when I thought I was out of the woods, more updates started downloading. Checking to see what they were, there were five recommended updates, all fairly small (total of about 11mb).

They've seemingly been successful, got to restart again. I'll let you know how it goes.

Updates - important/recommended etc.
When I see the Windows Updates listing there's a tab for "important" and a tab for "recommended." Today I loaded all updates that were important. But when I looked in my update history, a few were described as recommended. Also, today some places listed one update as "critical" - (the one...

Why does MS not categorize MSE definition updates as important??

Why aren't we getting some important Updates
