Since 'fix', laptop no longer installs important updates

    It should be less than 5% normally - see what process is using most of that 18%

    Well that is strange. Since posting, I went downstairs and let it run, just came back up, and installation is complete. Going to run the regular windows updates now.

    That's the same one I posted earlier - check the timestamp..

    There's something strange here.
    Please boot to a clean boot and try running the tool again....

    Did the clean boot, ran it again.

    What Anti-virus are you using? - it may ne that blocking proper operation of the tool.
    Are Windows Updates working now?

    I'm using Microsoft Security Essentials. It's never stopped updates before, so I don't know why it would now.

    There was one update that needed doing last night - I think it was the service pack, but it got to about 66% and kept failing. I'll give it another go now.

    Tried the update - wasn't getting past 0%. Should I run the SURT again?

    EDIT: Ran the SURT, and for a while it said 'Preparing the installation' without getting any further. Then I got a notification that new updates were ready to be installed, so I tried running the update again, and closed the SURT, and again, it got to 66% and failed.
