| | Cannot Update Windows After Factory Restore I did a complete Factory restore on this laptop because i could not get Security Essentials and Windows updates to work. I did a reset of the widows update module with a script I found on this forum, but updates would still not work. So.. I said "I had enough" and decided to do a factory restore. As soon as I had windows restored as If I Just bought it I ran Windows update to see what would happen. From start/all programs I clicked Windows Updates. I get the following message: "Windows Update cannot currently check for updates, because the service is not running. All the needed services are listed as running, which is confusing the heck out of me.  Is it possible that the restore partition is corrupt. The computer did have some viruses before the factory restore which I believe casued this in the first place. |

| | I followed the instructions in the Windows Update Posting Link and here is what happened. The setup started for the System Update Readiness Tool then failed with this error: Installer encountered an error: 0xc8000247 My CBS folder is attached. |
