Windows 7 error: Build 7601, this copy of Windows is not genuine
Hi,
I have owned my laptop for 1 and a half years now and all of a sudden I'm getting this error. I brought the laptop in to the shop 2 weeks ago after it started smoking from the power input plug area and it works fine up until today's error.
The scenario was kind of weird. My battery was plugged in and the blue light on the battery was on but my laptop was indicating that it wasn't plugged in. I shut down, and tried the plug again. The battery light lit up on the front of the laptop, so I powered back on. Upon loading up, I get the Windows 7 Build 7601 This copy of Windows is not genuine error. Not sure if these events are related. I updated all my windows updates and restarted. Then I am now getting a prompt for an invalid activation key.
I ran a windows activation validation, and it says "Windows has not yet been activated with a genuine product key. Not to worry, we can help with that"
And then lists a bunch of prices for windows 7...
Laptop:
Asus K53S
I'm not very good with computers. I had a sticker on my laptop that was peeling off so I removed it and apparently my activation key along with it, not realizing I might need it again... I have the box it came in but I don't see an activation key on that.
Help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
