Failure to Install 5 updates, 800b0100, tried everything!

I originally was failing 14 updates with 800b0100 and one other error code (forgot which). I went with manually installing them, and it took it down to 5 updates fail to install with only error code 800b0100.

KB2653956
KB2676562
KB2724197
KB2770660
KB2749655

I had some unstable RAM settings when first setting up the computer, where I think an update or so was occuring and the system crashing. Pretty sure only during the download process though.

Anyways, I've done everything on this that I can find.
SFC Scannow, System Update Readiness Tool, Reset content of catroot2, Remove any incorrect registry (none of the stuff they say to delete was even in there),

The only step that did not go 100% smoothly was "Register the Windows Update Files":

REGSVR32 WUPS2.DLL /S
REGSVR32 WUPS.DLL /S
REGSVR32 WUAUENG.DLL /S
REGSVR32 WUAPI.DLL /S
REGSVR32 WUCLTUX.DLL /S
REGSVR32 WUWEBV.DLL /S
REGSVR32 JSCRIPT.DLL /S
REGSVR32 MSXML3.DLL /S

On the bolded ones, I get:
Quote:
This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Please install a program or, if one is laready installed, create an assocation in the Default Programs control panel.
and

the Rename Pending.xml (there is no pending.xml file, cmd says cant find it, etc).

Turned off firewall and AV (WSE), renamed software distribution folder, Clear BITS queue, ran update 958056 (the tool that takes forever), ran chkdsk, ran disk cleaner.

Also, every once in a while, when trying to "Try Again" on the updates, it'll say "Windows update success! Updates unnecessary' or something like that. Then I hit check for updates, and those updates become necessary once again, and, all those language packs and remote desktop optional updates that I hid, become unhidden again.

Thanks.

I tried to upload a cbs log (compressed) and it wouldn't due to some security thing missing.

When you get an error message, we need to know the EXACT error you get.

Please try uploading the file to your SkyDrive or other favoured fileshare account, and post a link.

Updates require the TrustedInstaller Service to be running, which in turn depends on other services, which may not be running in Safe Mode.

You don't appear to have run the CheckSUR tool - or at least there's no logs for it in the files you uploaded?

I've never seen so much data generated by the CBS - 100MB in just over 30 minutes! There's so much data there that I'm having problems working out what's important and what's not.

running the CheckSUR tool may help.

Please download and save the CheckSUR tool from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821
(you'll need to look in the details for Method 2)

Run it - The tool can take anywhere from 5 mins to a couple of hours to run (or 'Install') depending on how much it has to do, and may exit silently - it may appear to freeze for most of that time, but be patient.
The result is logged in the C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log file - and an archive …\checksur.persist.log file

Then zip the CheckSUR.log (only) and attach it to your reply

Did a repair install. Hopefully this works, reinstalling all the updates now.

- still updating (why in the world cant you just get every update at once, i install 100+ updates at once, trying to get all of them, reboot, and then its like 5 updates, then reboot, and there's like 2-3 left out, and this process repeats basically for days...).

Anyways checked update history against the list i made in OP, and 2653956 was one of the succeeded updates. Furthermore no 'failed' updates that I had to manually install.

It appears the repair install fixed things. All my programs and files and settings seem intact too.

edit: All updates listed in OP have been installed. No issues.

Not sure what the problem is, but it might have something to do with unstable XMP profile. (omg sorry for not listing hardware, i meant to but forgot).

I have Mushkin Enhanced Ridgeback Blackine 996902, 2x2gb, 2000mhz CL7 1.65v
Z77X UD5H
3570k

apparently you can't set ram to 2000mhz on the ud5h. im not exactly sure why, but anyways when set to the xmp profile but 2133mhz, its perfectly stable. I think when running 2000mhz and troubleshooting this issue i was having crashes during the update process that may have caused some sort of dll or registry issues.

You know, just something odd...

The windows animation (4 colored dots swirling into a window logo) was not finishing before. like they'd swirl and halfway through animation the windows login screen would come up. doesn't seem like an issue at all, i have boot time set to 3 seconds (intel x25m g2 80gb, 3sec boot always fine on previous builds on this ssd).

When i repaired, i got the full animation.

But I've been doing some overclock tweaking and stuff, and the animation isn't completing anymore, it's like as it was before. I didn't say anything about this because I thought the animation never finished (can't be sure if it ever did, i mean i just built this system and one of the first things i did was trying to set xmp, even during installation and driver stuff).

ill keep an eye if updates or anything else screws up in the future.
