The CheckSUR report does make interesting reading :)
The CBS log isn't so interesting - but still informative.

There are only a small number of lines which I think are relevant....
    Code:
     Line 2369: 2013-02-16 17:18:51, Error CBS Failed to resolve package 'Package_2_for_KB2705219~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.1.1.1' [HRESULT = 0x80070490 - ERROR_NOT_FOUND]
     Line 2376: 2013-02-16 17:18:51, Error CBS Failed to process single phase execution. [HRESULT = 0x80070490 - ERROR_NOT_FOUND]
     Line 2947: 2013-02-16 17:26:13, Error CBS Failed to resolve package 'Package_2_for_KB2705219~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.1.1.1' [HRESULT = 0x80070490 - ERROR_NOT_FOUND]
     Line 2954: 2013-02-16 17:26:13, Error CBS Failed to process single phase execution. [HRESULT = 0x80070490 - ERROR_NOT_FOUND]
I need to have a play and see if I can replicate the problem somehow, despite not being able to access the original file that these errors refer to.

I'll try and get back tomorrow morning (my time) with some results.

I think I may have been looking in the wrong place....

Please run the following command, and post the resulting file

    REG QUERY "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Component Based Servicing\ApplicabilityEvaluationCache" >>regnp2.log

Bother! - no different to mine, essentially.

There are a total of 23 entries in the registry where that name appears.....
Please run the following commands, and post the resulting file...

    HI Noel,

Did as you said. See attached the log. Interestingly the last command you gave resulted in an error message. See attached screenshot. Did you make a mistake or did we find a possible cause?

It looks to me as if that error is the source of your problem.

The output from my registry looks like this....
    Code:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Component Based Servicing\Packages\Package_2_for_KB2705219~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.1.1.1
        InstallClient REG_SZ WindowsUpdateAgent
        InstallName REG_SZ Package_2_for_KB2705219~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.1.1.1.mum
        InstallLocation REG_SZ \\?\C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download\cd43af2a426479dd361fe4ea60272062\
        CurrentState REG_DWORD 0x50
        SelfUpdate REG_DWORD 0x0
        Visibility REG_DWORD 0x2
        Trusted REG_DWORD 0x1
        InstallTimeHigh REG_DWORD 0x1cd7dc4
        InstallTimeLow REG_DWORD 0x88596c5a
        InstallUser REG_SZ S-1-5-18
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Component Based Servicing\Packages\Package_2_for_KB2705219~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.1.1.1\Owners
        Package_for_KB2705219_SP1~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.1.1.1 REG_DWORD 0x30050
I'm not certain how best to deal with this - I need to play a little and see what happens.

SHOUT if you haven't heard from me by thins time tomorrow.

    SHOUT

I'll be away for a couple of days for work. Probably won't be back online until Friday evening, so you know if I don't respond in a day why that is :)

    Just to let you know....
The problem is the permissions on that Key - the default permissions are for the TrustedInstaller service to be the only 'user' with anything other than Read permissions, and it's also the Owner of the Key.
We need to gain access for the Administrators group so that we can write a new subkey - but then we have to return the ownership afterwards.
Unfortunately I can't find any simple tool to do the job even semi-automatically, so we're going to have to do it the hard way, which is a little risky.
I also have to workout the minimum data required for the new subkey, and the permissions required before we do anything.

So - as a summary, this is what I need to do.
    1) Change Ownership on the HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Component Based Servicing\Packages\ key
    2) change permissions to allow Administrators full control
    3) place the new subkey in the registry (using a .reg file)
    4) check that the new key is present
    5) amend permissions on the subkey if necessary
    6) Change the Owner of the subkey (to SYSTEM)
    7) Change the Ownership of the Key
    8) amend the permissions of the Key.

...and get it right first time!
    :)

So you'll appreciate that I need to first of all make sure that I'm doing the operation on the correct key.

Unfortunately, it looks at the moment as if I'm not
When I remove that key from a functioning system, I don't get any error in the SFC log
Your system appears to have the v2 version of the patch properly installed, so I can see no reason for it to be looking for the v1 version at all.
The only thing I can think to do is to do a full registry search and see what it throws up (if anything!)

Please download the 64-bit version of RegScanner from RegScanner: Alternative to RegEdit find/search/scan of Windows
    (direct link http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/regscanner-x64.zip )
extract the files to the desktop - there's no real installer - anr run it.
leave all settings at default, and in the Search for box, type
    Package_2_for_KB2705219
    click OK
Wait for the scan to finish
    Click on View
    Select HTML - All items
this will open a default browser window with all the data in.
Please save that as an MHT Web Archive file (or print it to the XPS document printer) and attach it to your reply.

    Hi Noel,

No problem at all. I'm amazed at the amount of effort you go through to help me out here.

See attached the mht as requested. I had to zip it as the forum does not allow uploading mht files directly. I hope this helps

It's a way of learning, for me :)

I seem to be missing something here - those results are the exact ones I would expect in a 'perfect' system.
So either I'm looking in the wrong place, or I'm reading the reports wrong in the first instance.

I'll have to review the thread and start again from scratch.
