Hello and welcome Ranger mate whether you have a retail or OEM the code is very difficult to read are you absolutely sure it is not just typing error - I have done that so many times the zeros can look at first glance like an O or a Q the B also can appear as an 8 etc etc flipping etc .

Microsoft in their wisdom also print these details so small and over patterns too which I think is pretty ordinary.

You appear to have used an Acer Recovery disk to reinstall your Compaq machine - which was constructed before Windows 7 was released, and so cannot possibly have a Windows 7 COA sticker on the case.

For which version and edition of Windows is the machine licensed, according to the COA sticker? Unless you have purchased a retail upgrade, or took advantage of the 'free upgrade' offer, that is the only Windows for which the machine is licensed, and the only version in which the Key will work.

All Speccy will find is the installed Key - which is the Acer one.

Hum I thought it showed the five by five activation code. What about SIW - same thing? Am just wondering cos even Acer would have had to use an OEM of some sort would they?

ALL Keyfinders work by reading and decoding the Product Key as held in the Registry - as does the MGADiag tool.
What is not in the registry cannot be read.
