Same......

Also, I went ahead and went to this reset/fixit link.
Windows Update or Microsoft Update repeatedly offers the same update
First attachment is pic of where in the link I ran.
Second attachment is the results it showed after the Fixit.
Note, it did reset all my updates....when I went into Control Panel > MS Updates i showed I have never tried.....all history was gone.
So, ran the check updates.....got 3rd attachment.
Then I tried to install the update....4th attachment.

I'm going out for couple of hours to see my Son play baseball.....be back later.

Thaks for hanging in with me.....let me know what next.

Regards.

UPDATE:
Noticed when this ran it created a folder on my desktop called: Windows Update Troubleshooting Info. Attached is the zip file of that folder.....has a log that shows errors, etc.

I see you've been in the Answers forums as well.
Please send Susan Bradley an email as she requested - she doesn't work for MS but she does have a lot of inside contacts, and can get things done.
She may be able to get a proper MS techie to have a look at your machine and discover the problem.
(just in case you lost the thread - Getting an error code 80073712 while trying to install KB2799494. - Microsoft Community)

I'll ask her to take a look (she may look more kindly on it then )

What he said. I really want to get to the bottom of this issue as it's concerning me that nothing is working. Email me at susan-at-msmvps.com and I'll get a support case set up. (change the -at- to @)

Done......any more ideas from your side ?....would like to keep trying.

My only thoughts on this are..........but TOO brute force IMHO.
1) Uninstall SP1 and re-install.
2) Do a in-place upgrade (repair).
If I did the above I would have to uninstall RollBack RX and image my machine.
The nice thing about RX is we can try some of you thoughts and I can rollback if needed easily.

Please just WAIT for MS to get back - whatever we do may destroy evidence in what appears to be a relatively common problem.

One thing you could do....

Download and run the TDSSKiller - http://support.kaspersky.com/5350 - and see what it has to say.
Some evidence shows that most causes of this type of problem are related to pre-existing rootkits.

I am working with MS now......they took over my machine tonight for an hour and no luck yet. The tech is very nice but he ran thru alot of what you had me try. I gave him this link but think he needs to run thru the steps himself. He took some logs and we'll try again Monday night after he researches.

FYI....I ran TDSSKiller and also did a boot scan in Avast.
Attached are logs.
Think TDS are just unsigned files and look OK...I know most of them......see what you thinnk ?
Also, Avast boot scan found a trojan that it put in quarantine but had no effect....install still failed afterwards.

The Bitcoin Trojan is one I know nothing about - but I suspect that it's not a nasty one, from the limited searches I've done. It's almost certainly not the cause of your problem.

I can appreciate that the tech wants to redo what we've already covered - he will have much more data available to him than I do, and more appropriate detection mechanisms. Please ask him for some detailed analysis when you can - I'd be interested to see what comes up!
