Windows 7: W7-64bit Feb-2013 Updates; KB2799494 Failed, Error Code 80070057

I'll post all the details once resolved.......my gut feel tells me this is going to come down to a in place upgrade (repair). If so, MS is going to have to provide me a O/S disk...I only have a repair one. If they ask me to go down that road prior to running a in place upgrade (repair) I might try to uninstall SP1 & re-install. One item I do not like that is happening but not yet being addressed by MS is that KB2724197 is similiar type of Kernel update that was installed in October. I had an issue with this one installing first time but then it seemed to go thru on second try. I've tried to uninstall this KB to see if I could re-install but it gives me error. Note, I can un-install on any other Windows 7 64-bit machine I have. This leads me to believe that something did not go right and since it is a "Kernel" update perhaps they are tied together. Only a guess.....wish there was a way to brute force uninstall.....unfortunately my oldest disk image backup is mid January. If it helps any i ran the rootkit remover and it removed the pihal rootkit from my system and then norton found 10 high risk threats all with the name tsk0003.dta (backdoor.tidserv) after that i was able to install the update no problem. hope this helps and thank you for those who made the suggestion of running the tdsskiller.

It's very likely that your error code was different - probably ended in FFFF ??

Hi all, Firstly apologies if I'm hijacking this thread, had to post a comment Been following this thread since I discovered it yesterday. I believe I have if not the same issue then a very similar one to it on a clients laptop running 7 Home Premium 64bit. I get the code 9C48, however nothing I have done so far has enabled the update to install. BTW from what I've read on here there's some very good members offering some decent advice so I thought now was the time to register!

I wanted to post this after weeks and weeks of effort.
First, thanks to NoelDP & Susan for all their help...and Praveen at Microsoft.
Everyone worked tirelessly to help me out.
Unfortunately after weeks of MS remotely working on my machine and all the trials there was nothing that could be done. There was no clear indication of the issue but clearly something in the Ms Kernel of Windows 7 was mucked up. The only thing we could summize is that in October there was previous Kernel KB2724197 update I had issue installing and PC hung....I did HARD reboot. After coming up I WAS able to install but I cannot uninstall on this problem PC...even though I can on other similar Windows 7 PCs. Since KB2799494 is a similar type Kernel update (same files affected) we could only assume that the other did install but was corrupted....not allow new updatyes. So, at the end of all this a In-Place Upgrade (Repair) was needed. This took ~3 hours but did not trash any of my installed programs or data. I did have to re-install all updates since SP1 but small price to have PC working again.
