    Help Have an Anytime Upgrade key but it won't work

    Ok, so I wanted to be "genuine & legal. I purchased an anytime upgrade key. It is a valid key for an upgrade. I downgraded from an "illegal copy of Win 7 Ultimate" and wa la got a downgrade to Win Home Premium. The installation was very smooth. However, when activating I had a message that this would not work with a clean install. I spent 9 hours on the phone with Microsoft. Until they troubleshooted me to the point where they deleted my boot manager. They agreed to send me a disk & also a new key. However, is there any way to make the key I already purchased that is VALID work now? I broke down as well and installed the service pack. I installed this Windows from Digital River.

    That won't work with an Anytime Upgrade Key - it requires an activated and validated system to upgrade.

    @justyermama
    For what version and edition of Windows is the machine licensed, according to the COA sticker on the case?
    A machine built in 2004 like yours is not eligible for Anytime Upgrade to any edition of Windows 7 unless it's first had a full upgrade to a lower edition of Windows 7.
    Has your machine had such an upgrade? - to what edition?
    For what is your Anytime Upgrade valid?
