Windows showing as not genuine after 5 months + strange desktop screen

    Hi,

After reading a few posts about this issue and trying to fix it, it seems it hasn't resolved.

I have read a lot of NoelDP's comments, so would love one of your 'easy fix' replies rather than the one or two 'reinstall!' replies.

I loaded up my computer yesterday and it showed me barebones non-Aero desktop with none of my icons, etc. The sound was not working. Failed to connect to windows service errors were showing in the taskbar.

I restarted and it seemed to work fine.

After a while my a message in the taskbar told me my windows was not genuine.

Anyway, to cut a long story short, I have started my computer up again this morning and it's showing from the start that it's not genuine.

I have entered my Key in to SLUI.exe 4, and it seems to have activated for now. The results below are from AFTER this activation and that means the computer is looking quite fine right now. I will restart and post another MGADiag if it comes up as not genuine again.

Anyway, I think this is what you need. The MGADiag.exe results:

OK, restarted and it seems genuine.

    Things to note being:

    1. I uninstalled Comodo Firewall before the restart.
    2. I activated via phone before the restart (this was mentioned in my previous post).
    3. I just updated my browser AFTER the restart (just now).

    Here is the report...

    Both reports look fine.

You say you just uninstall Comodo? Which exact version?

What other security software is installed? (I trust you re-enabled the Windows Firewall??)

You should attempt validation at www.microsoft.com/genuine/validate to clear the remaining minor error (which results from not activating within the grace period, rather than anything specific - when did you install this OS?)

I'm not sure about the version of COMODO. It was the firewall, and I kept it up-to-date.

When I tried to validate via the microsoft website (i've tried 2 or 3 times) it says my copy is not genuine/valid.

I installed the OS on September 15th.

It is an Upgrade copy of Windows 7 Professional.

Please try validation again. If it fails, go to www.microsoft.com/genuine/diag and see what that has to say
post back with details and a new MGADiag report.

What other security software is installed (AV/Anto-Malware, etc..) ?

OK well at the moment it seems to be validated. I tried the Genuine Validation again.

I'll just have to see if this keeps happening every time I restart my computer...

Thanks for the help so far.

Hmmm - I used to be a big fan of AVG, but I started to dislike it when they started bundling everything but the kitchen sink (and I wasn't too sure about that!)

What other AV's have EVER been installed on this machine since the last reformat/reinstall?
