    Win7 64 Update failed Error 9C48

    HI all,

Just registered after seeing a similar thread on here to the issue I have.

I have a laptop with 7 Home premium 64 bit SP1 that is up to date with the exception of an IE9 update that refuses to install at all.

Have tried various different methods but to no avail including attempting to remove IE9 and then try a reinstall.

Uninstall hasn't been possible. Any help would be much appreciated.

Hello adz76 and welcome to the forums

I've never seen a 9C48 error code from these problems before! Thank you for all of the logs, they are very helpful.

    Windows Update Package Replacement

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

    1. Please download the attached file, Packs.zip and save this to your Desktop.
    2. Right-click on the file and select Extract All...
    3. Tick the box labelled Show extracted files when complete then click Extract
    4. A window will open showing two folders, Manifests and Packages
    5. Open the Manifests folder and copy the files into the following folder (if there are any files)

      C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Winsxs\Manifests

    6. Open the Packages folder and copy the files into the following folder (if there are any files)

      C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Servicing\Packages

    7. Run the System Update Readiness Tool (SURT) again
    8. When the SURT finishes installing, copy (Ctrl + C) and paste (Ctrl + V) the contents of the SURT log into your next post please:

      C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.persist.log

You will probably be shown the error code 0x8024200D after performing this fix, if so, please download and install the update from this link. It must be downloaded using Internet Explorer.

Download Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 9 in Windows 7 x64 Edition (KB2675157) from Official Microsoft Download Center

If you aren't shown an 8024200D, please let me know - it isn't an issue, I would just like to know for future reference.

    Hi Tom,

As advised I have completed steps 1-8.

When I ran the SURT tool, I was presented with a hotfix update. ( KB947821 )

I clicked install and after a while of inactivity it installed successfully.

After this I had no errors, Windows update also flashed up that updates were available.

I then checked, there were now 2 updates ( image attached )

Both then installed and I rebooted and checked my version of IE, it was updated ! :)

Check wupdates again and I'm up to date! For reference I have also attached the SUR log file you requested.

All I can say is a huge thank you!! If you need any other info posted just let me know.

I've dipped into and out of threads on here for a while, glad I registered now! Thanks again!

    Hi Adam,

That's great news, thanks for posting back. Your CheckSUR log is showing that all 11 files from my fix were successfully replaced and as Windows successfully updated, you're good to go!

You're most welcome for the help :)
