Thanks Noel. I've run into a few CheckSUR logs like this before and in every one of them, the SuRT fixed the missing folder so I assumed this was the case here as well - looking at the log again now, I can see I'm wrong :)

Hi NLK,

Can you repeat the above instructions, but with this script:

https://dl.dropbox.com/u/16537616/Static/NLK/SFCFix.zip

Hi NLK,

Sorry for the delay. I thought I had found a bug in SFCFix whilst testing this out on my computer to see why it failed so catastrophically so I have been discussing this with the SFCFix developer. Fortunately there wasn't a bug after all, it was a simple case of miscommunication.

SFCFix Script

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop.
2. Download the file below, SFCFix.zip, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.zip - do not rename it.

https://dl.dropbox.com/u/16537616/SFCFix.zip

3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
5. Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
6. SFCFix will now process the script.
7. Upon completion, a files should be created on your Desktop: SFC.txt.
8. Copy (Ctrl + C) and Paste (Ctrl + V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please - put

tags around the log to break up the text.

When this has completed, please run the SURT and post the CheckSUR.persist.log.

Hi NLK,

Thanks for understanding. As you can see, the script has failed for about half of the files but it did manage to fix 7 more issues in the CheckSUR log. Let's have a further look at the permissions of those failing files to see why we are getting the access denied errors:

Command Prompt

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

1. Click on the Start button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
2. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following command into it, press enter afterwards:

icacls C:\Windows\winsxs\amd64_prnts003.inf_31bf3856ad364e35_6.1.7600.16385_none_1a5ec630d9861d24\*.* /T

4. Right-click on the Command Prompt window and click Select All, this will invert all of the colours by selecting the text, now press enter. All of this text is now copied.
5. Paste (Ctrl+V) it into your next post please.

Hi NLK,

I was afraid that icacls might fail for the folder, but it was worth a try. Looks like we're doing this manually!

Can you navigate to:

C:\Windows\winsxs\

And find the following folder:

amd64_prnts003.inf_31bf3856ad364e35_6.1.7600.16385_none_1a5ec630d9861d24

Right click > Properties > Security > Advanced > Owner > Edit

Click on Administrators and tick the box labelled Replace owner on subcontainers and objects. Press Apply then OK. Close the Advanced Security Settings for amd64... window, you should now be back to the original security tab. Click Edit, select Administrators, tick Full Control then press Apply then OK. Leave this folder open as we will be putting files inside this.

Now download these files:

https://dl.dropbox.com/u/16537616/SF.../NLK_Files.zip

Extract the contents to the folder that we were just dealing with that should still be open. Just copy and paste the two files and the folder into

C:\Windows\winsxs\amd64_prnts003.inf_31bf3856ad364e35_6.1.7600.16385_none_1a5ec630d9861d24\

Merge the folder with the existing one if it prompts you.

SFCFix Script

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop.
2. Download the attached file, SFCFix.txt, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.txt - do not rename it.
3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.txt.
5. Drag the file SFCFix.txt onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
6. SFCFix will now process the script.
7. Upon completion, a log should be created on your Desktop: SFC.txt.
8. Copy (Ctrl + C) and Paste (Ctrl + V) the contents of this into your next post for me to analyse please - put

tags around the log to break up the text.

Then run the SURT and post the logs please :)

Pilot error

Tom,

Please disregard the previous post. I modified the permissions on the wrong folder and added your files to that incorrect folder. Mea Culpa for the pilot error.

I did a system restore back to yesterday morning and will now follow your instructions with the correct folder.

Sorry about that.

Regards,
