Hi NLK,

It's a good job we got a fresh log before I continued fixing the corruption because I was right in suspecting that the errors weren't all they seemed to be. It makes my life a lot easier which is always nice!

We should have you all up and running in a few more posts but it's getting late here now and I have the joyous feeling of having to wake up for a 9am lecture tomorrow so I will have another crack at the last stage of the repair when I get back.

Tom
A Good night to you Tom. Standing by for your next reply.

Tom,

Your changes are already making a difference. I wasn't getting any new update notices until I incorporated your last round of components changes. I will not install any updates until you think all is well however.

FYI: among the updates in the current list are KB2538242 (continually failed) and KB2538243 (would install and continue to be offered as an update)

Cheers,

NLK

Hi NLK,

Couldn't sleep so I'm popping in quickly. Thanks for the update, it's nice to see progress happening elsewhere on the system and not just a few text lines in a log!

From the sound of things you probably already know this but for the time being can you hold off on installing those updates? A few of them will probably fail but I have a feeling that some might install which could complicate things whilst corruption still exists in your registry.

Hi NLK,

Here is the latest patch: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/16537616/NLKv3.zip

Apply it as usual please and post the CheckSUR log :) The last few errors that are left for me aren't playing nicely at all!

Hello Tom,

I again thank you for the lengths you are going to to correct my Windows Update issues.

The latest progress from the SURT after applying the newest Components File is: Found 31 errors and Fixed 7 errors.

I attached a pic of the installed Windows Updates where on 2/28/13 a new Windows Update Agent was installed while KB2742598 failed. I have subsequently set Windows Update to never check for updates until the coast is clear.

Standing by for your next reply.

Cheers,

Hi NLK,

No problem; it's my pleasure. Besides, this thread isn't all that hard to deal with, it's just that there's quite a lot of errors here! I've had threads run into 15+ pages long before. In this fix, I will be dealing with the missing payload files rather than the registry corruption so it has a slightly different procedure to it. If I've done this correctly then this should relieve us of 17 more errors.

SFCFix Script

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop.
2. Download the file below, SFCFix.zip, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.zip - do not rename it.

https://dl.dropbox.com/u/16537616/Static/SFCFix.zip
3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
5. Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
6. SFCFix will now process the script.
7. Upon completion, a files should be created on your Desktop: SFC.txt.
8. Copy (Ctrl + C) and Paste (Ctrl + V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please - put

tags around the log to break up the text.

When this has completed, please run the SURT and post the CheckSUR.persist.log.

Hello Tom,

I was unable to post the SFCFix text file in the body of this post as it exceeded the maximum number of characters allowed by the forum. I have instead attached it along with the latest CBS zip that still shows 24 errors as the SFCFix failed.

Standing by for your direction.

Cheers,

Thanks Noel. I've run into a few CheckSUR logs like this before and in every one of them, the SuRT fixed the missing folder so I assumed this was the case here as well - looking at the log again now, I can see I'm wrong :)

Hi NLK,

Can you repeat the above instructions, but with this script:

https://dl.dropbox.com/u/16537616/Static/NLK/SFCFix.zip
