Failure to start after critical Microsoft updates ?

For the past month, everytime my laptop performs a critical system update, the system fails to start when restarted. I then have to go through start up repair etc before eventually having to do a system restore. I don't want to do a complete wipe of the system. Is there any solution to this problem ? It started after I installed a new printer driver, but surely that's not a problem is it ? Any help would be much appreciated !!

I suggest that you first block updates by switching then off.
Then follow the Windows Update Posting Instructions and post the resulting data

Post that and the CheckSUR results anyhow - the CBS logs contain a lot more detail than just the SFC results.
