    Win Not Genuine Problem

I've been switching off the Win update option since yesterday. But, after updating a few options and rebooting I have been getting "Build 7601. The copy of Windows is not genuine." It also affected the performance of Microsoft Security Essentials on my system by making it 'Potentially Unprotected.' Pls assist.

    Bit more history of machine
Do you have a genuine copy of windows installed
Did it come preloaded or have you installed it
    Factory machine or diy build
    etc etc

Try running a MGADiag report and upload the result

The installation is counterfeit - enabled by a hacker's Activation Exploit, which has been discovered by Windows.
The installation of Office is also very likely to be counterfeit

You will have toe reformat and reinstall using legitimate media and Key.

Most of the back-end of Windows 8 is similar to Win7 - but the interface is very different.
If your hardware includes a touch-screen then Win 8 would be a very good option - not so good if it doesn't.

I haven't used 8 much so I'm not the person to ask for comparisons - but there are a multitude of sites with such details. I suggest that you Google a few.
Be aware of the differences in the licensing, and the editions - The nearest to Win7 Ultimate in functionality is Win8Pro - which still misses some of the functionality of most editions of Win7 (such as Media Center - now a pay-for option)
