Try again - that means that the hive is currently loaded into the registry, and it should automatically unload. Sometimes this fails for a while but it should eventually happen.

If not, boot to Safe Mode, and try the replacement from there.

So we're one step further along the line :) - the 0x0000007B errors are now missing from the logs.

Please run a CheckSUR scan and post the new CheckSUR.log file - it may be able to fix the remaining errors, or I may have to do it manually.

I get this when trying to run sfc. My reg key is good (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ProgramFilesDir) and did not have a backslash. This command doesn't work either: sfc /scannow /offbootdir=c:\ /offwindir=c:\windows

We're not attempting SFC at the moment - just CheckSUR from the file you downloaded for the Windows Update Posting instructions.

You say that this registry key - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ProgramFilesDir - is correct, but it doesn't exist on any of my systems.

The offline SFC command you attempted cannot work from within Windows - it can only be used from the Repair environment or another OS.

Please run the CheckSUR tool again and post the new log.

Step 1 - you've already downloaded it, so just double-click on it to run it again.
Step 4 to zip the files
and Screenshots and Files - Upload and Post in Seven Forums to upload the zipfile.

OK - please upload the following files.

    C:\Windows\Windowsupdate.log
C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log (you'll have to copy that to your desktop before compressing it for upload)
