There was a success in the elevated cmd but when merging the reg entries it gives the warning, I click yes, and that message about not being able to access the reg comes up. The second command comes up and says ERROR: The parameter is incorrect.

    Ouch.
That means that there is a problem with the permissions on the Keys.

Please run the REG LOAD command again, then ....

    Please open Regedit

    Navigate to the
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\COMPONENTS\DerivedData\Components
    key
right-click on the COMPONENTS key and select Permissions.
    Click on the Advanced button,

    There should be 4 entries
Users - Read - MACHINE\COMPONENTS - This key and subkeys
Administrators - Full Control - MACHINE\COMPONENTS - This key and subkeys
    CREATOR OWNER - Special - MACHINE\COMPONENTS - Subkeys only
SYSTEM - FULL CONTROL - MACHINE\COMPONENTS - This key and subkeys

If they are all correct, put a tick in the 'Replace all child object....' box, and click Apply - wait for it to complete, and click OK

If they are not correct, post back with details, for instructions on how to modify them - do NOT attempt to do it yourself unless you are confident that you know how!.

First let's check that there's nothing simple wrong.
Please open an Elevated COmman Prompt window, and run the following command...

    ICACLS C:\Windows\System32\config\COMPONENTS

    close the window

    open Regedit

    Navigate to the
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\COMPONENTS\DerivedData\Components
    key
right-click on the COMPONENTS key and select Permissions.
    Click on the Advanced button,
    Then the Owner tab.
    Who is listed as Owner??

Does 'Adminstrators (Blah\Blah)' appear in the 'Change owner to' box?

Ran that command and still cant see anything listed under Permissions. Heres the message I get when I click on Permissions for the COMPONENT folder in the reg: After this message I get an Access Denied message.

Is there a way to transfere a registry from a working windows machine and replace the one I have here?

Ok, I got the permissions figured out. Just changed the owner and I'm not get access denied. I merged the test2kmy entry successfully but the next command:REG UNLOAD HKLM\COMPONENTS is getting an access denied now.

I haven't forgotten you - but I have severely limited access to the internet at present.

Well doe for solving the permissions problem.
It's not unusual for the hive to refuse to unload - just leave the machine alone for 10 minutes, and then reboot.
This should allow it time to do any house-cleaning it needs to do, before forcing the unload. If it needs to do any more, it will do so after the reboot, and unload itself.
