It might be related to one currently causing trouble though, that's why we want the data :)

those instructions I interpret as having to do with error/s in the Windows Update process. I did not have any. Actually, I am batting 1000 on error-free updates while owning this machine since 2009 (as he knocks-on-wood). I apologize for the poor wording of my initial post.

In addition to the troubleshooting I posted, it wouldn't hurt to do what Tom posted above as well. The more data we have the better we will be able to see what the issue may be.

Tom and Shawn - thnx for your responses. My concern with the Update trouble-shooter process is running the sfc /scannow command. The reason is that it is my understanding that it will play havoc with custom themes and I have a few that I rotate. They are courtesy of the master Mr. Grim and I am quite fond of them. The only problem is that a friend installed them for me and is no longer available to 're-do' it all. Not really a 'rock & a hard place' scenario and I typically adhere to the 'if-it-ain't-broke-don't-fix-it policy, so, unless there is a real need (security issue, etc.?) for running IE10 I can live w/o it. However, in the event it is a 'must' to run this, I have posted a request for a 'theme restoration 'for dummies' that need to run the sfc utility' over at the Virtual Customs forum. If this process has been already addressed here I welcome a link.

Just ignore the SFC, it's not particularly relevant here anyway. Or run SFC /verifyonly and it won't do a thing, it will only report issues without attempting to fix them.

The immediate thought is that if you intentionally break the integrity of the OS, you are going to have to expect problems :)
