Windows Update constant failures, Error 800736B3

    Hello,

I seem to be running into a popular issue with Windows Update- 800736B3. WU is not completely broken, as it's still able to install updates to Security Essentials and non-system software (IE11, Office). All system updates, however, are failing. I've ran SURT and SFC scan, but both didn't report any outright errors. The logs should be attached to this post in the .zip

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance!

There are no errors in CheckSUR or the SFC scan, and nothing significant in the background CBS data.

Please post your C:\Windows\windowsupdate.log file - it may tell us where the problem lies.

    Hi Noel,

Yeah, the lack of any discernable errors in CheckSUR has been driving me nuts for a while now. I tried resetting the WU components per How do I reset Windows Update components? to no avail. Even after the reset, a reboot, and significant wait the updates did not install with the same 800736B3 error.

I've attached the update log as you requested. It dates back to 5/25, but since I've disabled automatic updates install a while back (this issue is not new; I am just finally getting fed up enough to properly address it), the error only pops up for the update I tried installing this morning 6/13.

Again, thank you so much for looking into this. Please let me know if you spot anything in the log or would like me to run any more diagnostics.

At the moment, I have no clues to the cause or solution.

Please refrain from attempting any offered solution from the various interent search engine - they are only likely to make matters worse!

I'll do some research and come back ASAP - if you haven't heard by late Sunday, shout at me!

    Hi Noel,

Any luck tracking down the root cause of the issue? I'll be happy to run any further diagnostics you may require.
