Windows 7: IE10 will not install on Win7

I've been racking my brain trying to remember what actually happened when I originally got the update.

I have the update settings set to auto download, but not to install. On 16/03/13 I got in a batch of updates including IE10. IE10 was unchecked, so I checked it and told the system to install (probably not such a good idea in hindsight!).

After it failed, and after retrying a couple of times, I went into installed programs, where it said it was installed, and uninstalled it. Ever since then the problem has reoccurred. (I'm virtually sure I uninstalled it, but not 100% positive).

Seems to me it could be a conflict between other updates at the same time.

Here is the update install sequence for that day. Interestingly it updated the IE9 cumulative twice, so maybe it was that I uninstalled, and not IE10, just can't remember.

Just seen your last post, I'll do that and post the logs

Here's the logs MS want, not sure where to send them.

Noel, thanks for all the time and effort you've put in, it's greatly appreciated.

I'm assuming my system is secure even without the IE10 update? I don't even use IE, so if staying on IE9 is an option, I have no problem, as long as there is no security issue.

Many thanks again, Roo

It's alright - I'll deal with that

Yes, IE10 doesn't bring very much to the table in terms of security, and IE9 is still secure (and will be updated for a few years yet, so no hurry)

I now can't seem to get past the problem of having windows updates only.

I uninstalled Office Home & Student 2007, reinstalled to no effect. Then I uninstalled using the MS Fix-It removal tool which removes all the registry entries too, reinstalled, but with same problem.

My problem is basically on the updates screen, the "Get updates for other Microsoft products" "Find out more" link is dead. It does nothing when I press it, so there is no way I can receive other updates!

I find it strange that it's anything we've done, but if someone's got a fix that doesn't involve a reinstall, I'd be most appreciative.

OK, sorted out updating problem, apparently it's a bug that can be solved by installing Silverlight. Hey presto I now have Windows updates and Microsoft updates. Just uninstall Silverlight afterwards if you don't want it.

Still can't install IE10 though...

That may be a case of having to wait for MS to produce a new fixit or update - they know of the problem and are working on a solution.

This worked for me

I had the same problem. I uninstalled all versions of Java and then was able to install IE10.
