windows explorer has stopped - when i click control panel

    I have 12 svchosts entries in my system currently - which is about normal.
    As its name implies, it's the host process for many of the system services, and each different group of services will open a new instance of the process.

    15 at boot does sound excessive, though - my Pro VM has 10.

    Perhaps a rootkit check would be a good idea...

    Download the TDSSKiller from Anti-rootkit utility TDSSKiller
    run it (leave it at default settings!) and see if it picks anything up.
    If it does, I suggest that you seek specialist advice.

    i download and ran it, it did not pick anything..

    is there anyother options? or shall i format the windows?

    I've had a change of heart - since we have no idea to the extent that the malware has stuffed the system, I think a format and clean install are best.

    Sorry, i have a problem in the windows clean install.

    actually am using Sony Vaio with windows 7 home basic. i dont have widnows 7 home basic installation CD. i have gone thru the suggested url Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7

    there i can download ISO for only windows 7 home premium only [i cant get the windows home basic ] . i have downloaded the home premium and installed it. when i try to activate using my windows key am getting error. pls refer the attached screenshot.

    pls suggest where i can find the windows 7 home basic ISO.

    Product Keys will ONLY work on the edition for which they were issued - you will have to contact Sony to acquire a set of Recovery media for your system.
