Yes - unfortunately it's not very enlightening.
The errors I highlighted haven't re-appeared - which is good - but on the other hand there are no obvious clues as to what the problem may be,
As you saw from the other thread, the last time that error appeared it may have been associated with bad blocks on the HD - Please post the Event logs .

I think your problems relate to an earlier error - following an update to .NET on 16 Nov 2012.
I would recommend running the .NET cleanup tool, from .NET Framework Cleanup Tool User's Guide - Aaron Stebner's WebLog - Site Home - MSDN Blogs and then reinstalling .NET 4.5 from Download .NET Framework 4.5 from Official Microsoft Download Centre

no go. ran the tool (i have attached the log) and restarted the pc... same error.

    pj

NOTE: i just ran the cleanup, i did not re-install 4.5.. i have no need for it and WU has no need for it
NOTE: changed users, disabled UAC, restarted, ran tool again (under admin account).. still no luck

WU doesn't depend on it, but does install updates for it - but there appear to be other programs that do use at least some version of .NET (ELG ??)

There are a number of errors in the log - I'm not sure of their significance....

These entries are actually for .NET 1.1

There are also a lot of errors in your event logs for Office SIP

ya, office sip is our little chat program i use.. if the server computer is off, it cannot connect, and it writes an error in the event log.. been using it for years, and am aware, but thanks.

edit: yes, i saw access denied, even though i ran it on a standard user account, but ran as admin. i logged out, ran it under the admin account. then even disabled UAC, changed the other user to admin, restarted, ran dotnet, restarted, and tried windows update. nothing. same error

EDIT: interesting! i am able to update microsoft security essentials! had to click UPDATE manually.. but usually it would fail with the same error code as windows update, the 80244004 error.. but it is updating as i type... and succeeded.. this happened once before.. but sure enough, when i hit update again, i am now getting the same error...

MSE uses a slightly different mechanism than the usual Windows Update one for its updates.

Please download the Farbar Service Scanner from

    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/farbar-service-scanner/

Right-click on the saved file and select 'Run as Administrator', and tick all the options, then click on the Scan button - copy and paste the report to your response.

    Those results are normal.
The only thing I can think of now, is a full reset of Windows Update....
