did that long ago.. i think that is what created those MUM lines in that error you said you had never seen before...

ran again anyhow, under admin account. same error

Did you just use the Fixit from the popup? (that isn't the same as the one actually on the page)

If you ran the fixit from the page itself, please use the manual instructions ('Let me fix it myself'), and make a note of any error messages the procedures create.

OK - please open a command prompt and run the following commands....

    DIR C:\Windows\System32\catroot*.*
    ICACLS C:\Windows\System32\catroot2

    post the results

That looks normal - looks like you've used two different Fixits for the renames previously, as well as the manual rename.

Please run the following command, and post the results....

    DIR C:\Windows\System32\catroot2 /S

Here are some instructions to make life easier :)
    1) To open an Elevated Command Prompt Window (the ECP window), click on Start, All Programs, Accessories – then right-click on Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator. Accept the UAC prompt.
    2) To run the commands easier, highlight the block of commands, and right-click on the highlight – select Copy. In the CP Window, click on the black/white icon at top left – select Paste. The commands will run but may not complete the last command, so hit the Enter Key once.
    3) To copy the results... click on the Black/White icon in the top left, and select Edit... 'Select All', and hit the Enter key - then use Ctrl+V or r-click+Paste to paste it into your response.

Those errors are normal - I really have no idea why MS insists on including them in the list!
