IE 10 install failure - Error code 9C57

First post, thanks in advance for any help.

    Problem:

IE 10 update fails to install.

    What I've done so far:

Updated all drivers for everything under device manager
Windows fixit program to no avail
Ran selective startup thru msconfig and attempted install to no avail
    Installed SURT
    Ran sfc /scannow

CBS.zip file attached, I think that's everything from the post instructions.

    Thanks again!

Hello and welcome johnss I saw the previous post back in March where the OP had to do a clean install again.

But I guess that isn't an option for you so is it just an update for the IE10 or the IE10 itself?

IE 10 itself. And I don't think I would be able to do a clean install, windows 7 came installed on the laptop.

Well you can do what is known as a factory default. That is that Dell would have a partition there that cannot be touched except for an absolute wipe.

What one does is to power off and then power on while tapping the default key. For example Toshibas use the 0 (zero) key for this function.
See this DELL Inspiron - Restore to factory default settings

*Now before you go doing that and the torrent of updates again. I am still not sure where that IE10 came from it does come with Windows updates or you can go here Download Internet Explorer 10 this is where I am - best just Google IE10 download for Windows 7 but I am pretty sure it will be the same.

The download attempt was through Microsoft update. I attempted to download through the link you provided with no such luck. I will look into the factory default.. I take it there is nothing that can be done with the CBS file?

To be perfectly honest Johnss I am not real good at reading those CBS reports the text docs report nothing and I am really not sure of hat those others contain mate as I cannot open them.

Do you want me to pass this onto the more help thread?

Just out of interest how old is the machine - out of warranty? if not then get it fixed by them.

Let me know what you want to do.

I can see no problems in either the CBS/SFC log, nor the CheckSUR logs.
Please post the C:\Windows\Windowsupdate.log file and I'll see if I can make any sense out of it.

Hello johnss001 and welcome to the forums

In addition to Noel's request, can you upload the patch logs please? I have written a batch file to collect these logs for you. Download the attached file, Log Collection.bat, and double click on it to run it. It should create a file on your Desktop, tom982.zip, attach this to your next post please :)

Tom - that must be run as Admin, or it produces an empty zipfile.
