Yeah - that was my fault, as used the wrong set of files in the first instance, and didn't realise until too late!

    Here's the new list....
    Code:

    OK - part deux :)

    I've uploaded a file - adcab.zip - to my SkyDrive at Noel's SkyDrive
    Please download and save it.
Right-click on the downloaded file, and select Extract all…
Extract to the default location - which will create a new folder adcab in the same place.
Open this folder - there should be two folders inside it (Manifests, and Packages)

Copy the content of the Packages folder to the folder
    C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Servicing\Packages

And the content of the manifests folder (.manifest files) into this folder:

    C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Winsxs\Manifests

Now run the CheckSUR tool again (it may take a while)

Post the new CheckSUR.log file, and the CheckSUR.persist.log

    Noel,
Progress - but not quite there! CheckSUR now reports no errors (see the attachments). However (after restart) Windows Update still reports the same errors: 800B0100 and 8007065E. Any suggestions what to try next?

It looks like your SoftwareDistribution folder is corrupted....

    Open an Elevated Command Prompt
    Run the following commands

    NET STOP WUAUSERV
    REN C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution SDOLD
    NET START WUAUSERV

    wait 15 minutes, and reboot
then wait 10 minutes, and open Windows Updates, and run a Check for Updates.

Install only the oldest update found - and reboot once installed
then go back to Windows updates and install the others.

    Noel,
OK - done, and some updates installed, but the remaining updates fail with an 8024200D error. CheckSUR still reports no errors. Logs attached ...

The ones that fail with the 8024200D error can usually be installed simply by downloading the standalone patch and installing from the download.
I'd guess that KB2742599 is one of these?

    Noel,
Installing the update manually worked. Since then there have been a few more automatic updates, and they all worked too. So - fingers crossed - I think we are cured!

Thank you so much for your help - very much appreciated! Now my only question would be, how this happened in the first place and what does everyone else do to fix it?

The common cause of this type of error is a forced shutdown of the machine while it's updating - either because of power outage or impatience :)

Glad everything seems OK now - good luck with it!
