Noel, thanks again for helping me clear this up. I installed the VC++ update and restarted. There is now no other important updates available including SP1. Should I try a manual download and try to install it outside of Windows Update?

Nope - you may well find that it is in fact installed.
Click on the Start button
in the Search box, type
WINVER
and hit the Enter key

the Windows Version window should pop up - does that show that Service Pack 1 is running?

I checked both under the Windows Edition in "System" and then checked WINVER and it did not state Service Pack 1. I downloaded SP1 update manually and it seems to be installing perfectly fine. I'm going to just let it do it's thing but it seems to be working properly now. I'll make a post of the overall outcome. You are a genius by the way. I was completely stumped on this. I greatly appreciate your time and help buddy!

It installed. Ah yeah.
Thanks so much. You sir are master of the Windows!

EDIT: Is there a way I could get a minor detailed explanation of what exactly was causing the error just for future reference? Either a PM or in the thread. If it's a pretty dense issue then no worries!

Basically, your install of KB2797052 was bollixed somehow - and Windows didn't know whether it was installed or not (or part-installed).
Until that was sorted out, WU just barfed on anything that came its way.
Once we had the proper catalog files installed (security certificates) and the lists of associated tiles (the .mum files) then the system was able to check that the update was properly installed, and could give the OK to install the remaining updates.
Why SP1 didn't show up when you did the manual scan, I have no idea - it's being pushed all over the world now, so far as I know.

No No Ghudda, you don't have to have problems to come back and see us. Just drop by every now and again and take a look at some threads. Their will always be something of interest.

Win 7 SP1 will not install on my Lenovo laptop

Hello NoelDP

I am also having problems installing Win 7 SP1. I have read all possible reason on the MS download center for SP1 and have checked each and every reason and they didn't apply to my laptop.

I download hotfixes and patches but it still doesn't help. I have fair knowledge of a pc but I am not a programmer. As long as I get instruction on what to do I can do it.

I installed Win7 SP1 file KB976932 several times but nothing is happening. The reason I want Win 7 SP1 is that it is required so I can upgrade my IE8 to 10 or 11. Can I get around installiing Win 7 SP1 to upgrade my IE?

thanks
Aida
I'm ready to pull out my hair, I don't know what else to do!!!
