2 things happened after Windows update 2 on June 10th, 2013

I have a Dell Inspiron with a Core i5 CPU.

    I am running Windows 7 Home - 64 bit.

    I have McAfee Anti-Virus Software.

My computer has 2 issues that appeared after a Windows update.

My IE 10 will not start. It flashes a Screen momentarily and shuts down.

Second issue - can not shutdown computer. Restarts when I try to shutdown.

Don't know if issue is Windows update or something else.

Device drivers appear to be OK.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks

    Welcome to Sevenforums,

Maybe first, see to uninstall the IE10 updates kb2838727 & kb2859903 from the Programs & Features => show installed updates.

Try uninstall the flash player (see if it works after), then updating flash player to v 11.7.700.224 to the latest.

You could also run the System Update Readiness Tool

    I appreciate the help! :)

I looked for KB2838727/KB2859903 - and they were not in the list of installed updates.

I downloaded/ran the System Update Readiness Tool.

In Program and Features, I can not locate IE to uninstall. Should I delete from hard drive and re-install?

Haven't done Flashplayer, that's next on my list.

First is IE10 your default browser?...looks Chrome is installed on your machine.

Yes could be wise also to uninstall IE10 then reinstall, run it then, and see if when Windows updates install the new Kbs, if it does the same crash.

IE was defaullt browser, until this issue.

I noted that it said Chrome is now default when I ran the report.

I am using Chrome in order to get into Internet.

Not sure why it's listed as default.

    Thanks!

So, that's why you coudn't start IE10....set IE10 as your default browser then run it to see if all is in order...then choose whichever browser please you.

I have never had a problem with running both browsers before this.

It would ask if I wanted it to be default or not, but would open.

    I can't even open browser.

Is this something new, that it won't allow to open if Chrome is default.(Which I'm not sure how that happened).

If I can't open IE, how can I make default?

    Thanks
