I entered the first one and it was okay. Then I entered the next set (2 lines)

attrib -r -s -h %SystemRoot%\System32\Config\TxR\*
del %SystemRoot%\System32\Config\TxR\*

I told it Y and then pressed enter. And it gave me a message "The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.
C:\Windows\System32\Config\TxR\{016888cc-6c6f-11de-8d1d-001e0bcde3ec} . TxR . 0 . regt
rans-ms

Then it changes a little further down. Here is a screenshot:

Hey guess what. I ran those 3 commands again. The second one gave me the same message. But I went ahead and ran the 3rd one anyway. And my updates installed. Woo Hoo!

So I ran another SFC Scan and got this message:

Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them.
Details are included in the CBS.log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For example
C:\Windows\LOgs\CBS\CBS.log

So I have zipped up the CBS logs and the logs from C:\Windows\Logs.

Can you tell what has caused all of this? Is it some software that I have used? AppGuard? A cleaner? Shadow Defender maybe? I don't feel like I do anything that unusual. Thanks so much for your help! Chuck

Hi Chuck,

That's great news! Thanks for posting back the results.

As for what did this, it's hard to tell. Essentially, what happened here was that your computer has a big list of things to do over a reboot and something caused one of these lines to hang, so it couldn't do the rest. I'd say that it's more likely to be a minor bug in Windows than anything you've done, so don't worry about it.

You're most welcome for the help It has been a pleasure working with you.

Just one corrupt file to fix:

I'm not sure where this file is meant to go on your computer but I know the WinSxS path, so I'll fix that one and let SFC reform the hardlink
