Error WINDOWS 7 7601 BUILD NOT GENUINE. No idea how to fix this.

    Hey all,

I am very new to this form so please bear with me. I just turned on my laptop the other day, and it was all black, with the WINDOWS 7 7601 build not genuine error in the right lower corner.

This has worked fine for 3 years with no trouble. It is a dell inspiron bought from BELL (Not DELL, BELL) here in Canada.

Any help is appreciated. I KNOW NOTHING about computers. I thought this might be a virus, but I am hearing this might be a legit issue. No of course, the WINDOWS product key on the bottom of the computer is all smudged. Will I need that?

Anyway, please take a look and offer up any ideas. THANKS

I did the Diagnostic tool and this is what I came up with:

    Code:

I have been looking at some of the responses for this problem from other posters. There are alot of smart people here and I am hoping some will be willing to help us out. I don't want to follow advice on the other posts due to the advice probably specific to the diagnostic report.

I don't want to beg, but I am certainly not above it:)

Is there anything jumping out of you guys with my diagnostic report?
    THanks in advance

    Hey all,

Please forgive me if I posted the report incorrectly the first time. I just joined the forum last night and posted that report BEFORE I read the instructions on how to post reports I reposted it correctly I hope further down in the thread.

Also, here is more info it it helps:

It is a Dell Inspiron N5010 with WINDOWS 7
Purchased in 2010 from Bell (A telephone, cable, internet provider in Canada)
Was working fine (well, a few errors here and there) \, but then all of a sudden the black screen with the not genuine error.

i called a computer place and they actually said that there is nothing they could do?!?!? So I am really hoping you guys and gals can help me out.

    THanks in advance,
    Dave

Dave, I dont see anything obvious to indicate that the installation is not genuine, despite it reporting as such. Ill ask NoelDP to have a look at this as he is more experienced with these odd codes.

Look out for his reply, but in the meantime try to decipher the smudged COA key....you may well still need it.

Hey, thanks Golden. Trust me, I have TRIED my best to make that key out (light, magnifying glass, prayer (well not that far)). The guy at DELL said that I wouldn't need to use that key as it has it's own that they installed (or something like that - like I said, I am clueless about computer tech stuff - mind you, if you have a question about microbiology, I'm your guy lol!)

Dell wanted $150 to give me the fix for this, so obviously I thought I would try you guys. I'll sit with fingers crossed.

    Thanks!
    Dave

Here are some instructions to make life easier :)
    1) To open an Elevated Command Prompt Window (the ECP window), click on Start, All Programs, Accessories – then right-click on Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator. Accept the UAC prompt.
    2) To run the commands easier, highlight the block of commands, and right-click on the highlight – select Copy. In the CP Window, click on the black/white icon at top left – select Paste. The commands will run but may not complete the last command, so hit the Enter Key once.
    3) To copy the results... click on the Black/White icon in the top left, and select Edit... 'Select All', and hit the Enter key - then use Ctrl+V or r-click+Paste to paste it into your response.
