Windows 7: Is this week's batch of updates too troublesome?

Is this week's batch of updates too troublesome?

I've kept updates set to automatic, until May, when that update batch caused conflicts with video drivers that caused lockups. Checking the forums I see lots of users are having issues with this past Tuesday's batch of updates- some updates won't install, W7 activation is lost, amongst other problems.

How many people have had zero issues with this past week's batch? Is the batch too problematic to install and should I avoid it for now?

To play safe, I ran sfc /scannow and it turned up no errors. I ran MGAdiag and found nothing wrong. I've yet to install the updates, decided I'd post this thread to gauge how widespread the problems are in case these updates are causing more problems than usual.

I didn't have any issues with this months updates, and very rarely have seen an issue with any Patch Tuesday updates.
I do create a System Backup Image for my systems before applying the monthly updates.
It makes backing out the updates "quick and easy", if that's ever needed...

I had to add a registry tweak posted elsewhere on this forum to restore my web page download html and <name>_files association linking.

Windows updates are extensively tested before release. But inevitably there will be some problems. All non-trivial software has bugs. This has always been true and I can't see it ever changing.

Considering the millions of computers running Windows it would be shocking indeed if no one reported some problem following an update. However extensive the testing it is impossible to test all combinations of hardware and software. And also understand that many of the reported problems have nothing to do with the updates at all. Many of the problems are due to failing hardware, overclocking, or buggy drivers or applications.

It is in the nature of things that individuals who experience problems with updates will make it known, sometimes very vocally. Hardly anybody will start a forum thread saying that an update took place and everything went well. This isn't news, nobody is interested, nobody cares.

In all the years I have been using Windows I don't think there I have ever experienced a problem with a Windows update. Unfortunately, that is not true of application updates. I pay little attention to forums and blogs reporting some problem with the latest update. This is to be expected.

I had no trouble with the updates on my two machines at home. I do make a point of avoiding having updates automatically, I prefer to be in control of what I install and when. I also tend to wait 24 hours after the updates become available so that others can test them for me!

I may still wait a few days, regardless. Just checking here, the MS support forums and a few other places it seems this batch of updates is really problematic for lots of people, moreso than usual.

Could you give a couple of links to what you found? I'd had problems with this week's update on three different PCs and had never had problems before. Two of them involved the graphics card being reset to what looked like 800x600 ... very unnerving.
