Windows 7: Is this how it should be?

Is this how it should be?

Hi y'all, this is not a 'problem' - just wondering if it oughta be this way. Yesterday I shut down the computer and it said there was one update to install on the logout - and it took quite a while before final shut down. As we have already had 'patch Tuesday' ( I thought), when I logged in today I went to look at 'Installed Updates' to see what it was that had downloaded. There was nothing at all in the list for the 29th July. That puzzled me, so I went to System Restore and found that I had actually had TWO critical updates installed yesterday; one in the morning and one in the afternoon. The morning one was the one that I was told about on the log-off screen, the afternoon one snuk by. Is this normal? Does Microsoft habitually creep in critical updates and not list them in the Installed Updates list, and if so, WHY?? Just curious is all. Usually I have the machine set to the condition that I am alerted before any installs, but I recently re-installed the OS and may have forgotten to set that condition again.

Howdy, looks like it is normal:

Inside Windows Update [Start | All Programs | Windows Update] settings (View Updates history) it should show you all Windows updates [from that screen click Installed Updates in upper right text to see ALL updates, not just 'Windows', various headings, like Microsoft NET Framework 4.0.]

I was confused at first, also.

You already know about the settings for telling/not telling/on doing them, revisit for one you want.
