    The installed Key is the Default Key for Ultimate - which can never be activated.

    There are signs present that an Activation Exploit is present and active

    You should reformat and reinstall with legitimate media and Key

    For which version and edition of Windows (if any) is the machine licensed, according to the COA Sticker on the case??

    Have you had the machine in for repair at all? Lent it to anyone?

    That's the problem, then - a lazy techie.
    You should contact the manufacturer, and order a set of Recovery disks for your machine - this should contain the proper licenses to self-activate the Key.

    This seems to be a perennial problem, and it has recurred for me. The last time, guidance similar to that posted here worked just fine -- for a time. Now, not so much.

    I've been variously getting:

    -- "Windows activation / Status Not Available / Product ID: Not Available" under Start, Computer, Properties, but that seems to have resolved (with a different Product Key than on my CA) upon running the MGADiag Tool;

    -- "You may be a victim of software counterfeiting" and similar dire-warning pop-ups, wanting me to either call HP or Microsoft or buy another copy of Windows 7 (the current copy came pre-installed with the machine from HP );

    -- "Windows 7 / Build 7601 / This copy of Windows is not genuine," in the lower right-hand corner of the desk-top, complete with periodic desktop theme black-outs; and

    -- "Error Code: 0xc0020012."

    On trying to recreate the licensing store, after "net start sppsvc" I got:

    "The Software Protection service is starting. / The Software Protection service could not be started. / A system error has occurred. / System error 2 has occurred. / The system cannot find the file specified."

    After slui.exe 3, I got:

    "The following failure occurred while trying to use the product key: / Code: / 0xc0000022 / Description: / {Access Denied} / A process has been requested to access and object, but has not been granted those access rights."

    A full CHKDSK and SFC late last week disclosed no errors, yet the problem persisted.

    MGADiag Tool results just now are as follow:

    Is there any reliable way to tell whether its now fully resolved, or do I need to continue pursuing a long-term fix? Thanks for your guidance, thoughts and suggestions.

    Do you use registry cleaner/tuneup etc. tools or similar on a regular basis?
