Windows instant fail update error code 800401E4

Well, I click update and it fails instantly. Has only been happening since the past 2 weeks. Plenty of reboots and shut downs since then, still the same. I google the code but doesn't seem like much help, and the results are a couple years old.

    Help?

I also think this is the reason when I installed Kies it doesnt launch...

Since following those steps, my PC now shows an old looking start bar and windows, and opening any windows explorer type window results in a crash. This is def worse than before.

You have some major system corruption - your best option is going to be a repair install.

Gee great... it was working before doing the steps above at least. I don't even have my Windows 7 disk anymore.

If you bother to read the instructions, they tell you how to acquire the necessary reinstall disk.
