Update history indicates some updates failed, but not sure it's a prob

Hello, I recently installed Windows 7 on my wife's computer and shortly afterward, let Windows install the updates it wanted through Windows Update. Upon reviewing the Update History, I see that many of the updates originally failed, but have since been updated successfully. I've gone through these updates one by one and found 3 (2706045, 2729094, and 2758857) which do not appear to have been installed successfully. I don't get any errors and the Windows Update tool does not indicate that updates are needed. Is this something I should correct, or should I assume that the Windows Update tool knows what it's doing and not worry about it? I've run the Fix It tool that comes up within Windows when one selects "Troubleshoot problems with installing updates" multiple times. I've also run the Fix Microsoft Windows Update Issues tool located at: Fix Windows Update Error messages and other Windows Update issues multiple times as well. Each time I run this tool, it indicates that it's resolved an issue, but it seems to be the same each time, so I don't have confidence that it's doing anything. Thanks in advance for your input.

You may well find that the failed updates installed successfully at a later time - this is quite common, as updates test to ensure that all required files are already installed, and will fail if not, only to install successfully after the next reboot when the files have been install by another update.

Hello Noel, Thanks for the reply. When I first ran Windows Updates on 8/10, there were roughly 75 updates which failed. I ran the Fix It tool several times that day and resolved nearly all of them. On 8/13, there was another set of updates which resolved a couple more. Are you suggesting that this is normal and that these remaining 3 will eventually get resolved automatically? Thanks again for your insight.

It does sound as if you have a couple of underlying problems -

Please follow the Windows Update Posting Instructions and post the requested data

I have created the CBS.zip file, but I can't seem to attach it. I tried multiple times yesterday and this morning, but I keep getting the following message about a minute after hitting "upload."

500 - Internal server error.
There is a problem with the resource you are looking for, and it cannot be displayed.

I'm assuming I'm doing something wrong, but I can't figure out what.

That usually means that the file is too big - delete the oldest CBSPersist files and try again

There's nothing in the CheckSUR log, and the SFC log shows that it fixed a few problems today - see if that's helped with your general situation.
The files involved were all IE-related - such commonality could perhaps indicate a slightly corrupted install, or a malware infection.

I'm not sure I entirely follow. I looked at my Update History and only see the Hotfix for Windows (KB947821) that I installed and ran yesterday. I looked at Installed Updates and don't see anything new. So do I now need to take steps to try to install the 3 updates which I believe are missing (KB2706045, KB2729094, and KB2758857) as they previously failed or just wait and see if Windows corrects this?

Have you checked the Installed Updates listing for those three 'missing' installs?
