Windows 7 not genuine after hard drive upgrade (IDE to SATA)

    Hi,

I have just upgraded hard drive from an IDE to SATA and cloned the old drive to the new. The system boots OK and I can log in to Windows but I get a message indicating that Windows is not genuine.

I've searched this forum and found a few threads covering this problem but haven't determined the way to resolve this. The threads seem to suggest pasting the output of The Microsoft Genuine Advantage Diagnostic Tool to help diagnose the issue so here it is (I removed the Windows Product Key - paranoia!). Doesn't mean much to me so any help appreciated.

    Thanks

    Code:
    Notification Reason: 0xC004F00F
This error indicates the tolerance for online activation has been exceeded.

You need to perform telephone activation using these steps:

    1. Click Start, and in the Search box type : slui.exe 4
    2. Press ENTER on your Keyboard
    3. Select your Country.
    4. Select the Phone Activation option, and hold on for a real person.

FYI : there is no need to remove your product key in the MGADIAG report........its partly hashed which makes it extremely unlikely that anyone could use it for nefarious purposes.

    Wow, fast response Golden, thanks.

I ran slui.exe 4 as you suggested and saw one of the options was to activate online so I thought I'd give it a go. It went through successfully and seems to have worked. New diagnostic report below.

    Thanks for your help!

Not quite, Golden - it actually translates as 'The Software Licensing Server reported that the hardware ID binding is beyond level of tolerance.'

This is usually caused by hardware changes or driver updates.
