Genuine Win 7, deactivated, can't reactivate, no phone activation

    Hi all,

I have a problem I've been trying to solve and hope someone can help.

I purchased an Acer desktop which came with Vista but as it was around the time of changeover I got a free upgrade to Win7

I was living in Malaysia but left in July. Before I left I got the local computer shop to check and service the computer as it was much cheaper than where I was going to (Japan).

Shortly after arriving in Japan Win7 deactivated. I contacted MS and they say to contact Acer in Malaysia which I did.

They asked for serial numbers and the Win code on the computer. This is where trouble strikes - the code on the computer is for Vista. After about 3 weeks of going back and forth they finally provide a new 20 digit product ID. However this doesn't work so Acer tell me to use the phone registration. This option won't come up for me, even when trying to fiddle with it using slmgr.vbs, slui.exe and other methods.

I have contacted the computer repair shop too and they have basically brushed me off.

So I now turn to you all and hope you might be able to help me out please. Thanks!

    Here is the code.

Stop promoting paid commercial remote ''assistance'' which does not come from Microsoft, contrary to what your post seems to suggest. In addition, there is nothing this kind of so called ''support'' can do about activation. They can just rip people off and steal personal information.

Stop right now. I'm also reporting you.

No Rawad, see above. They provided a product ID then told me to use phone registration. When that didn't work they told me to reinstall the OS. I prefer not to have to do the latter.

I agree with Teerex. It would be good if you could help provide a solution rather than a subtle link impersonating as the MS Tech Center.

To get to a solution you should tell us what kind of ''free'' upgrade did you get, from who, and whether you still have the upgrade disc and key. If that upgrade was legitimate, you will reach a happy end no matter what.

The most legal and by-the-book way of solving your problem would be to find a Vista disc for the OEM edition originally provided to you by Acer (Home Premium, I presume), reinstall, let that Vista activate and then do an upgrade clean install with the Windows 7 Upgrade disc.

The tutorial I linked above also provides workarounds for activation of the retail upgrade. Unfortunately, I'm not sure if they would work on a working system.

Let's wait before that for more experienced members of this board to see if any shortcut(s) exist to get to the same end result.
