    Cannot install Update for x64-based Systems (KB2853952)

    I have tried over and over for days now and I cannot get this update to install. I recently had to disable the automatic update settings and install updates manually one at a time. This works most of the time, but sometimes I have to try to install an update several times before it finally installs.

    Where do I need to start looking and what suggestions does anyone have (short of a format & install), to find the reason why I'm suddenly having trouble with some updates? Other than this, my system seems to be running fine and I've had no other problems.

    I'm at a loss

    Are you logged on to Windows as an Administrator?

    Have you tried downloading the update manually?

    Is it possible that it has already been installed (check the installed updates), but Windows Update is incorrectly prompting this update again?

    This is what I find in the system event log:

    - EventData

    errorCode 0x80070490

    updateTitle Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2853952)

    updateGuid {D72AFBA3-193D-4374-B91D-6AF4DB6D0D45}

    updateRevisionNumber 200

    Looking through my update log this has been failing since 09/12 and has not been previously installed.

    I am installing and running the System Update readiness Tool right now. Once I've run it and have some results I'll post them here.

    Searching for error code, lead me to: Error code 0x80070490 when you use Windows Update or Microsoft Update to install updates

    You might have to do a little repair first, of the Component-Based Servicing (CBS) manifest that might be corrupted with this tool:
