Windows 7: Can't update Service Pack 1, error 80092004

Can't update Service Pack 1, error 80092004

Hi,
Last night I reinstalled Windows 7 x64 on to my rig. I spent a good portion of the night installing the windows updates. I encountered a problem with Service Pack 1 though, KB976932.
The update would reach about 60% and freeze (and left for a good few hours). After it happened it was also impossible to stop the process without a shutdown. I tried numerous times to install the update, to no avail.
I spent most of the morning trying to solve it myself via google, running SURT (with issues), direct download, safe mode etc. but had no luck.
After many hours I decided to bite the bullet and just reinstall again.

Running in to the same issue this time around though. Unfortunately I do not have any of the logs from the 1st install, only the latest.

Running in to problems when using SURT this time around again too, giving error: 0x8007000d data is invalid.



Any help would be great as I'm pulling hair here

Try this:

Download System Update Readiness Tool for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB947821) [August 2013] from Official Microsoft Download Center

You can manually download SP1 here:

http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/downl...s.aspx?id=5842

Download, *save*, and install the Service Pack.

Disconnect from the Internet, turn off the antivirus program, & close all nonessential process in the task manager.

Which Browser are you using? Try using IE 10, if your not already doing so.

Already tried manually installing and have used SURT many times (getting error code when doing so) As mentioned in my original post.

Installs have both been fresh, so do not even have antivirus installed, so that is definitely not an issue.


EDIT: Just tried with IE10, whilst being offline, and still getting same errors.

Run the Microsoft Fix-It here: You receive a "0x80070002" or "0x80070003" error code after you download an update from Windows Update, from Microsoft Update, or from Windows Server Update Services

You must run it in Aggressive Mode.

I know that it doesn't list your error code, but I am saying that it is relevant in this particular case. Basically, it will perform several fixes, and one of them applies to your situation. It is just easier to run a neat, automated tool, rather than having to fix it manually.

Once you have run it, please re-start your computer, re-run Windows Update, and let me know whether that resolves your problem.

Going to make myself look a bit silly but, what do you mean by Aggressive Mode? No net connection, no anti-virus etc or is there a specific option to choose within the fix?

Appreciate the help

EDIT: nevermind, I see it's an option within the fix.

No worries.

However, I tried the fix you gave and I'm still getting the same issues. Tried manual install of SP1 again too and again, same error. Also gave SURT another run and that is still failing.

I've uploaded a file - fmdaa.zip - to my SkyDrive at Noel's SkyDrive
Please download and save it.


Right-click on the saved file and select Extract all...
Change the target to C:\ and click on Extract
Close all windows (it would be a good idea to print theseinstructions!)
Now reboot to the Repair Environment - as soon as the machine restarts, starttapping F8 - this should bring up the Advanced Boot Menu, at the top of whichshould be the option 'Repair my Computer'
Pick that
You'll have to log in with your username and password.


Pick the option to use a Command Prompt
At the prompt type
DIR C:\fmdaa
hit the enter key - if you get a 'NotFound' error try
DIR D:\fmdaa
or
DIR E:\fmdaa




The drive letter in use when you find the folder willneed to be substituted (for<drive>) into the followingcommand...



XCOPY<drive>:\fmdaa <drive>:\windows\winsxs /y /i /s /v /h



(e.g.XCOPY P:\wfire P:\windows\winsxs /y /i /s /v /h )



run the command (it should take almost no time)andwhen the prompt returns, type
EXIT
and hit the Enter key to exit CommandPrompt - reboot to Normal Mode Windows.


Now run SFC /SCANNOW in anElevated Command Prompt
then reboot and upload the new CBS.log file to your SkyDrive Public folder, andpost a new link
