Installed Samsung 840Evo SSD, Now Copy of Windows Not Genuine

    Hi,

I recently installed a new Samsung 840 EVO 120gb SSD. After using the Samsung software to move everything over, everything works but I get Windows notifications everywhere that my copy of windows is not genuine. My desktop background says:
    Windows 7
    Build 7601
This copy of Windows is not genuine

    I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate SP1
    Intel Core2Duo T7500 2.2ghz
Refurbished HP Compaq6910p, came updated w/ Windows 7 and Office 2010

I'm kind of lost on what to do. Everything works just fine, except that when I start my computer I get a popup saying "not genuine, get genuine now etc". It also resets my desktop background to a black picture with "not genuine etc" in the bottom right.

I'm not quite as good with this stuff as I would like. If anyone has any help I would really appreciate it. Please be as specific as you can, especially if you would like me to type any command prompt stuff.

    Thank you

I was not aware that very many refurbed computers come with win7 Ultimate. What does the refurb COA sticker say ?

Then installation is counterfeit - the machine was built in 2008 - over a year before Windows 7 was released - but is using an OEM_SLP Key only valid on machines pre-installed with Windows 7.

The SLIC table is for Vista not Windows 7.

You need to reformat and reinstall with genuine media and Key.

Thanks to everyone who replied to this thread or the mistake thread I posted.

    Doc Brown-
The sticker say Windows Vista Business OEMact

    Noel-
I purchased this off of a guy who buys computers from big companies who are done with them and are moving on to new computers. He fixes any problems, updates them, and resells them. He has an actual business and is not fly-by-night, however he works from his home.

It looks like my options might be-
Go back to him and have him re-install Windows 7 on this new drive, along with office
Buy a legitimate copy of Windows 7 online
Learn Linux because I can't stomach the cost of a copy of Windows 7.

What should I do? My biggest issue is probably the popups and the fact that my copy of office 2010 (came w/ comp) says it will be invalid in a month. I need office for work.

What would you do if you were in my position? Open question to all users. Thanks

I suggest that you threaten your vendor with a visit from the FBI - who are responsible for software counterfeiting in the US - and persuade him to part with a legitimate copy of Windows. - then post another MGADiag report when you get it! - you should also try getting him to install a legitimate Office.
Presumably you paid for genuine software when you bought the machine - you have a right to expect it!

What you have there is not, and never could be, a legitimate Windows 7 installation as in obvious from the COA sticker. Either your vendor is incompetent, and just puts WIndows 7 on every machine he gets hold of, or he's trying to fleece you out of your hard-earned cash. Probability is that it's the latter so don't be afraid to apply the thumbscrews!

If you opt to purchase online AVOID eBay/Craigslist etc. sites - they are mostly also counterfeits.

If you can get a copy from a major online vendor such as Amazon (but NOT an Amazon MarketPlace trader!) then go for it.
