All Security Updates Installed with no problems. How do I structure installing the rest of the updates? Is there an order they should be done? And you had an issue with .NET updates? Whats that?

In general just leave it to Windows - but I do suggest leaving .NET updates until last because they are often the ones that create most problems.

When you do come to the .NET updates, install the ones for v3.5 first then reboot and install the ones for v4/4.5
v3.5 comes with the OS so usually present less problems than v4 - and the jury is still out on v4.5, but personal experience is actually good with that )

800F0826 - these ones will require downloading the standalone installer and using that for the install.
With any luck that will clear the way for the rest

I tried to install the 800F0826 updates individually using the standalone installer. I was informed each time that the update had installed, however on rebooting the pc i was preseneted with the message "Failure configuring Windows updates. Reverting changes. Do not turn off your computer"

After the reboot, I check and find that the update has not installed at all.

One other problem that has been identified is that my system keeps asking me to switch Windows Firewall on. When i try to do this i get a message saying it cant be switched on.

So close to having this PC sorted and yet still so far away!!

Try downloading IE10 (contains Platform update) and install locally from your machine: Download Internet Explorer 10 from Official Microsoft Download Center

IE10 should be thr last thing to be installed as it relied on others updates being properly installed
