MS will no longer provide free support for Windows Updates - except under exceptional circumstances (and who knows what that means)

    Both:
99% of the time we can fix these errors in the forum - and with a lot less hassle than being on the phone to MS for 6 hours going through their support scripts :)

Sorry to disagree - I called and the problem was solved in 5 minutes with a remote. (no charge)
You are one of the lucky ones, then - it seems to depend on locale as well as the specific update involved. In some areas at least, all Windows Updates used to be covered by free support - then they reined it back to Security updates only, and then further still.
It also depends on whether your license is a retail one, or an OEM one.

I should take more caffeine with my caffeine at that time of the morning! This time I managed to get the right version but the wrong 'bitness'

Back in a few minutes with the right ones - I hope!

Well, we've fixed the CheckSUR errors, at least - sorry again about my cock-ups!

Please now run an SFC /SCANNOW, and zip and post your CBS.log file (C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log - you'll need to copy it to the desktop first and zip the copy as it can't be manipulated directly)
