Computer attempts the same update on every shutdown

    Hi,

For the last months i have been having this problem when shutting down the system. It says i have an update and it attempts to update while taking quite a while it seems to complete and then the system goes off. However, next time i shut the computer down i have the same update which is failing to complete. Seems to be an update for Internet Explorer but no matter what i do, even manually, i cant manage to get it completed. What can i do?

    Thank you.

    Hi,

Sorry, i dont understand this step:

Under the For Windows 7, Windows Vista, and Windows Server 2008 header, click on Method 2 to view the instructions relevant for your computer.
Where is that header supposed to be?

But anyway, here is a screenshot of the error:

And my logs are attached to this post.

    Thank you.

(Aaargh! they've changed the format again! )
Go to System Update Readiness Tool fixes Windows Update errors in Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008 R2, and Windows Server 2008

    Look in the 'Resolution' section
and work out which one you need - in your case it'll be "All supported x64-based versions of Windows 7 "

and download that - then carry on from there.

CheckSUR was run- 6 weeks ago!
please run the latest version (it's been updated since then) and post the new CheckSUR log.

There no evidence that SFC has been run in the past two weeks, either.

But does that matter? After all, i ran everything after getting the update errors back then. Anyway, i've just run everything again and these are the new logs.

    Thank you.

Of course it matters - a lot can change in six weeks - especially if you've made any attempts to fix the problem yourself!

As it happens, there are currently no signs of problems from the SFC or CheckSUR scans.
I would recommend resetting Windows Update.

Thanks. What should i do after resetting it? Now no pending update shows but there is a button that says check for updates. Should i press it?

Yes - check for updates but only install the oldest one found.
If that works, then reboot and try installing the others
