Windows 7 Build 7601 This copy of Windows is not genuine..when it is!
We have a desktop and a laptop. Both run Win 7 Home Premium 32-bit with SP1 update. They were both updated from Vista a long time ago using genuine retail MS DVDs. Until recently they have both run perfectly (much better than Vista!).
The desktop recently started to display the message: "Windows 7 Build 7601 This copy of Windows is not genuine". I posted a question on the Microsoft Forum. Noel D Paton kindly replied with helpful suggestions, including doing a repair install. I downloaded 'X17-24208.iso', burned it to a DVD and attempted the install. After about 6 hours over night the install failed. 'Windows could not configure one or more system components. To install Windows restart the computer and then restart the installation'. It reverted to the old setup.
Not to be beaten, I then downloaded and ran 'MS Win 7 Upgrade Advisor' as it suggested. It found one incompatible program, and gave it a red cross symbol; I removed it. I also updated a driver as it suggested and I removed iTunes after first de-registering this PC. There were three programs mentioned as having no capability information; I could not find them. I then re-ran the installation from 2 pm to 7:30 pm. Everything was working well and looking hopeful until the last stage 'Transferring files, Settings and Programs'. To my astonishment (and annoyance!) it failed again!! The message again is: 'Windows could not configure one or more system components. To install Windows restart the computer and then restart the installation'. Again it reverted to the old setup... that was about 2 weeks ago. I wasted almost the whole weekend .... (Life is too short. Perhaps I should change to Mac)
Now it is refusing to do any Windows Updates "Windows could not search for new updates" Error C0000034. The last update successful was on 14 Sept 2014.
Any help will be VERY welcome. Here is the MGADiag:
