Yes I know, my own fault there - it was on my list of things to do and I should have done it before doing any more updates. Only installed the system recently and hadn't used the laptop other than to do the updates.
I have read elsewhere though, that downloading IE11 has messed up gadgets. This happened to one person on a 32 bit laptop but not on his 64 bit laptop - so maybe it only affects older hardware or 32 bits.
It's probably a conspiracy to make us have to upgrade to Windows 8

I have run IE11 for some time on one pc and the other day the other pc downloaded IE11 along with about 7 other items. I had forgotten that one was still running IE10. Everything seems to be hunky dory.

I downloaded and installed everything except IE11 Sunday morning and, so far, no sign of problems.

I still have the six Office updates to install, any recommendations on whether to do so? Any known problems with them? Everything else went ok.

Make an image of your system, then install the updates. If there is a problem (I haven't seen any reported and I didn't have any), you can always restore the image.

I appreciate that's an option, but it's not one I've got a grasp on before and the tutorials are pretty daunting to layfolk like me!

I'm waiting a while before installing IE11. With all the software/hardware permutations possible, it's impossible for M$ (or anyone else) to anticipate all possible problems so I prefer to wait until M$ has had time to deal with any sneaky bugs.

With IE10, even after waiting a few months before updating to it, I ran into a conflict between IE10, Avast free, and WOT that was causing IE10 to crash frequently. I had to disable Avast's Web Rep and add-ons in IE10 to resolve the conflict.

I'm on IE11 and while I had a few problems with YouTube, that seems to have cleared up switching to HTML5. The bad part about that is you need to keep YouTube cookies. I've also had to use Compatibility Mode on a few sites I frequent but I had to do that with IE10 too. The IE11 update kept all my IE10 setups and add-ons.

I have not installed the patch yet, wait a little longer to see if there is perhaps a correction for any patch.
Can be a good idea to create a thread whenever new patches appear, to see if one o more, can cause conflict.

As for internet explorer 11, wait a little longer for be optimized to 100%
